Anti-calc water systems provide cleaner water

Scale can form on heating elements and in the hardware and pipes of plumbing systems. Anti-calc water systems accelerate magnesium and calcium minerals into particles that are harmless. Water enters the conditioner tank and is drawn through the agent transforming it into inactive glass particles. These particles make their way through the pipes without sticking. This results in a 99 percent improvement in fouling prevention. Prevents corrosion by adding a protective layer to the surface of pipes and fittings and is maintenance free.

Compared to classic softeners that work on the basis of ion exchange, calcium and magnesium ions are exchanged with an equal amount of sodium ions, which adds sodium content. This raises environmental and health concerns and requires backwashing. With this system you do not have the expense of buying salt and the particles generated are harmless to the environment.

Traditional softeners can be replaced by the anti-limescale system. There will not be a slippery feel like you feel with fabric softeners and there may be a slight salty taste and odor until the existing fabric softener is completely removed. Pipes will be clean and no calcium or scale will build up.

If the system becomes contaminated, it can be treated with 2 to 3 ppm chlorine for short periods to kill bacteria. The system will tolerate 140 degrees Fahrenheit or 60 degrees Celsius. It can withstand temperatures of 39 degrees F and should be kept from freezing. It works best in the 6 to 9 pH range.

At a minimum, system life is 3-5 years if recommended sizing and chemistry requirements are followed. Well water, if left untreated, can be a concern as it has a high level of interfering ions. Municipal sources often meet the requirements, but high levels of chlorine, greater than 2 ppm, can interfere with the life of the system.

It is recommended to install a whole house carbon filter before the anti-lime system if chlorine is present. Depending on the type and amount of limescale buildup, descaling can take one to six weeks to take effect. Due to the high temperatures in a dishwasher, stains can be seen on the dishes due to descaling taking place. It is recommended to run a cup of white vinegar through the wash cycle to remove scale. It is also recommended to cut the use of soap in half and use ecological detergents.

Conversion of magnesium and calcium in existing pipes can be accomplished in as little as two seconds. The reaction is immediate and particles are formed on the surface. Meets NSF 61 standards, which is an independent health test performed by Water Quality Assurance Laboratories. Having too much chlorine will have a serious effect on the system, so a carbon filter should be installed as part of the treatment system installation.

A great advantage of anti-scale water systems is that they require less service and maintenance. They require no salt or service calls to verify that they are working efficiently. They require no electricity or valves, keeping costs to a minimum. As they do not require salts or chemicals, they do not discharge brine. They do not require electricity and therefore keep energy costs low. Backwashing is not required and therefore there is no waste water. They use up to 50 to 70 percent less space than conventional softening systems and allow healthy minerals, magnesium and calcium, to remain.
