If you are looking to buy a cat, you should consider the different breeds of cats out there. Since there are so many breeds of cats, this can be a daunting task. Selecting the wrong breed can cause you and your family a lot of distress, as the wrong breed can be a misfit. But selecting the right one can give the missing spark you’re looking for to light up your home.
So here are 4 helpful tips to get you started.
1. Vocal or pretty cat?
Some cats can actually “meow” a lot and also quite loud. If your home environment (and neighbors) can support a vocal cat, do so. If not, think twice. If you want loud and vocal cats, go for these breeds: Siamese, Korat, and Burmese cat. On the quieter side, choose: The Scottish Fold, Somali, and American Curl
2. Cuddly or aloof?
A cuddly cat needs more attention, so if you have time, go for this breed. Cuddly and affectionate cats tend to be better with children than the more reserved breeds. But if you don’t have time, then go for the reserved or aloof breed. Some breeds of cute cats are: Snowshoe, Abyssinian, Maine Coon, Ragdoll, Tonkinese, and the Himalayan Persian. The most distant and reserved breeds are the Norwegian Forest Cat, the Nebelung, and the Russian Shorthair.
3. Naughty or funny yourself?
There are some breeds like the Sphinx, Siamese, Rex, Balinese, and British Angora that can do some harm. They are very curious and energetic. You either love them or hate them. If you like less volatile breads, avoid them.
4. Long hair or short hair?
If you don’t have a lot of time to spend with your cat, you may want to opt for a short-haired cat breed because it requires less time for grooming. An adult long-haired cat. Although it looks nice, it requires a lot of attention to grooming and can be time-consuming.
Having considered all the different characteristics and traits of the cat breeds that interest you, you are now ready to start looking for your new pet. You will have to decide if you want a kitten or if you would rather give an abandoned older cat a second chance.
