Most common car signal problems: problems and solutions

Ordering a custom car sign should be a fun and easy process. However, what is not always fun and easy is taking care of the signage. It may sound cliche, but with vehicle signage “you get what you pay for” so it’s very important when you spend the money on signage that you also spend the weather necessary to take care of your signs. I have identified some of the most common auto signal problems that occur and provided simple solutions for each of them.

Problem #1: My car magnets won’t stay on my vehicle, they keep falling!

  • Solution: First, identify that your vehicle is made of metal. This may seem a bit obvious, but some budget vehicles have plastic doors and high-end sports cars often have fiberglass panels and therefore cannot be used with magnets. Then, since most vehicle magnets are shipped rolled in a tube, allow them to flatten on a metal surface (such as a refrigerator) for at least 24 hours before applying. Apply the magnet to an area of your vehicle that is flat and smooth; Placing a magnet over a crease, groove, or molding creates an air pocket that can cause the magnet to fly out of the vehicle. Finally, always store your magnets in a flat, dry place to ensure they don’t warp. If your magnet is bent or misshapen, this will also trap air and draw it away from the vehicle.

Problem #2: I just installed a decal on my vehicle and the material is wrinkled or has bubbles!

  • Solution: Using a low heat source, such as a hair dryer or heat gun, heat the material to loosen the adhesive. Gently remove and reposition the decal, and use a squeegee when applying to ensure smoothness. For bubbles that are quite small, you can use the end of a pin or thumbtack to gently pop them, then flatten them with your fingers.

Number 3: I ordered a car window decal and it doesn’t fit my window!

  • Solution: Unfortunately, this problem is not that easy to fix. It is essential to measure your window before placing an order to ensure you select the correct dimensions. Most windows are not exactly rectangular, but the piece you receive will be (you will trim the edges during installation to fit your window). You will need to provide your sign maker with the top width, bottom width, side height and middle height of your window to ensure your decal will fit. If you receive the car window decal and it is too large, use a razor blade to trim the edges of the design to fit your window, if possible. If it’s too small, use the razor blade to trim away anything unneeded to make it look like a centerpiece. If trimming is not possible or does not help, please contact your sign company to see if they can help you with a new order.

Ideally, you are reading this article prior to Check your car’s signals to anticipate potential problems, but if you’re really experiencing one of these problems, take a deep breath and focus before attempting to fix the problem. In most cases there is a quick fix, but it is always better when you can think clearly.
