Research the auction house. Some servers lack a market for particular items. For example, your server might not have a lot of players who mine Thorium due to a small percentage of players within that level range. Even though the item is in some sense “outdated” it is worth way more than you can imagine when you run the market for it. High level players with an abundance of gold will willingly pay way too much for the Thorium because they are too lazy to mine it themselves. A player would easily do this if they were leveling their blacksmithing. Choose gathering professions such as mining and skinning over crafting ones offer pure profit.
