Architecture is simply the method of designing and constructing buildings. Professionals who deal with architectural works are called architects. They are the creators of modern urban structures who beautify the cities with their magnificent creations. The work of an architect is not limited to the construction of corporate buildings but also designs buildings for other purposes such as hospitals, apartments, hotels, schools and commercial complexes etc. It is becoming more and more a popular career nowadays due to the high pay and the huge scopes involved in this profession.

By profession, an architect must carry out studies on how to plan and design a structure, he must have a clear vision of that from the beginning. Students should be naturally inclined to go a long way in this field. Various courses are offered at all levels in architecture, from a diploma to a master’s program. Although most architecture colleges in India offer 10+2 eligibility with mathematics for undergraduate courses, students of all educational backgrounds can apply for architecture courses. Some institutes offer entrance tests as a method of selecting candidates in the field.

A B.Arch program is 5 years which can normally cost a student around 2 lakhs. Private institutes prescribe very high fees. Even diploma courses will cost a similar amount. Scholarships are largely offered in this field.

Employment opportunities are good in this field. Most of the jobs are available from government subsidized organizations like the Department of Public Works, Department of Archaeology, Ministry of Defence, Urban and Rural Planning Organization, National Institute of Urban Affairs, Railway Departments, etc. . Otherwise, professionals can work independently by operating their own architecture studios.

Fresh Architects can start with a salary range of 20,000-30,000. Even after 2 years of experience, they can earn considerably more, up to 60,000. Architects who have their own firms can always earn more. Now, after the FDI in real estate, the demand for architects is going to be higher, as it will definitely attract a lot of money from foreign companies.
