Add value to your kitchen and home at a low price

Finding ideas and ways to improve the value and comfort of your home is relatively easy today with dozens of home-related magazines, television shows featuring interior decorating, and the thousands of home improvement websites.

In our towns and cities, we see an ever-increasing variety of home decor stores, unique furniture stores, and just looking in the DIY store this morning, I was amazed at how many home products and paints you can easily buy. .

However, there is a small drawback in all this: money. Buying comfortable or luxurious items for the home will make us happy and feel good, and of course, if you move house, you will take these items with you, including those beautiful lighting fixtures that you spent and beautiful patio furniture made of oak.

But what about expensive home accessories that you need to replace but can’t afford or are just worried this expense will be lost when you sell your home?

Of course, I’m talking about replacing that poor old kitchen of yours and those shabby windows and doors. Two of the most expensive home improvement jobs you can do when renovating your home.

Well let me tell you a little known secret that I use when renovating properties to sell on my limited budget and limited time:-

I have my kitchen cabinet doors, drawers, end boards and kick boards spray painted any color of my choice! Yes, you read that right, I have my kitchen cabinets spray painted.

This is a huge cost savings compared to replacing a perfectly normal but ugly cooker and it’s also much faster. Did I also say less messy?

First I choose a color that I like and combine it with the design of the house. I then contact my local spray painting company and book the job, advising them of my color choice (which can be any RAL or Pantone colour). Then they visit my house, remove the doors and drawers from the kitchen and take them to the factory to be sprayed. Within a few days they come back and fit the doors and drawers and mask the rest of the kitchen to spray the end boards etc.

For added impact to my kitchen design, I also have my appliances spray painted in a matching color to coordinate with everything the kitchen has to offer. Bang, you now have a stunning and unique kitchen that no one else has and at a fraction of the replacement cost.

I tend to color code the walls, kitchen cabinets, and appliances in different shades of the same color just to break up the mass of color. Next time I like to use different colors around the kitchen to see how it works.

So at this point, I guess the question you’re asking yourself is “How long does the paint last?”

Well that’s a great question. As long as you choose a professional spray painting company, your paint will last 10 years without fading, bubbling, or minor scratches. Obviously, if you’re rough with the paint, it will scratch. Unlike hand-painted kitchens that fade and scratch quickly, a spray-painted finish has a much more professional look and much better quality.

Now my next trick to save money…

If the property I am renovating has aluminum or UPVC windows, doors and sunroom, I use the same spray paint company to mask and re-spray the windows and doors, again in a color of my choice. This is normally a bright, clean white. But sometimes, I’m a bit braver and use a beautiful contemporary color to really make the property stand out.

Just be careful when requesting colors other than white. Not all home buyers like windows that aren’t white and not many people know that they can be re-sprayed very cheaply.

Finally, also think about other areas of your home that could also be spray painted:-

garage doors

gutters

ceiling lights

downspouts

radiators

doors

conservatories

pool covers

weather boards

And so…

Good luck with your home project and I hope the above was helpful.
