Alphabet pictures (for teaching Korean students)

An ESL lesson (memory helpers for kindergarten and phonics level).

Young ESL students should be exposed to various methods to help them learn the alphabet. I teach the alphabet while making the phonetic sounds and trying to illustrate the big and small letters with my hands and body. Children can come to the front of the class and do the same. I/they draw the letter on the board, of course, or use a large chart/poster. Ask the children to say A big, a small, B big, b small, etc. Do not introduce the capital word at this stage of your development. Big is fine.

Children are very fond of hand gestures and body positions, physical learning. For example, a W is two V’s, then flip it over and you have an M. (Put two V’s together at the tips of your fingers and you can also make a diamond and then a square.) The elbow is an L and an arc. Two children holding hands is a capital H, etc., etc. This is kinesthetic (mind-body) learning at its finest. If you are good at drawing much better. Always a winner.
