Audi 80

Produced by the German automobile firm Audi, the Audi 80 is a small-size executive car that was produced for thirty years between 1966 and 1996. The car was available in a sedan body and also in a family class. There were variations of the coupe and convertible car, but they did not share the Audi 80 name or badge even though they were nearly identical and shared mostly the same parts and styling. The Audi 90 was simply a high-end Audi 80, aimed at luxury buyers. North American and Australian buyers may recognize the car by the model name Fox and 4000.

Initially born from the F103 series of Audi cars, the Audi 80 got its name from the power of the engine, 80 horsepower. The B1 was continued and ran from 1972 to 1978 before it was redesigned. There was a notable facelift for 1976, with the introduction of squared-off headlights and a restyled front end. Over a million cars were built in that time period. An estate version was introduced, although it was mostly a VW Passet with the 80 panels at the front of the car.

The end of the seventies saw the restyling of the Audi 80 in Europe and North America. At the same time, the North American model became the 4000, while European cars remained under the 80 designation. The station wagon variation of the car was dropped, while the Passet remained on the market. The Audi 90 was also introduced, basically the 80 with a bigger engine and luxury options. The last facelift to the car came four years before car production ceased, with the B4 model.
