Canary Islands: a great vacation for beach bums!

When it comes to a great vacation, cruising with the family can be a great option. And, if you’re like me, you’ll definitely enjoy a good cruise vacation any time of year, especially when it comes to beautiful beaches, blue skies, and friendly people.

One of my favorite destinations is none other than the Canary Islands off Spain. You may choose to get there by cruise, in which case it’s a good idea to hire a cruise-only travel agent or an online agency that specializes in cruise vacations. They can probably offer you better cruise vacation deals.

It can also be reached by air. All the islands have airports. Most international flights and those from mainland Spain go to Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote. You can also fly to the Canary Islands from most
European cities. If you’re flying from North America, flights usually go to Madrid, where you can get a
connection Flight.

The Canary Islands were originally inhabited by an unknown aboriginal group, probably from North Africa.
It was in the fifteenth century when they were discovered by the French Bethencourt. Some popular destinations in the Canary Islands to visit are: Fuerteventura, Gomera, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Tenerife.

In my opinion, this place is one of the best vacation spots to escape the winter. And there are plenty of activities to keep you and your loved ones busy! If you like golf, you can try the mini golf course. If biking or walking is your thing, there are plenty of trails to wander.

One of my favorites is the Teide National Park. It is a wonder of nature with its impressive volcanic landscape. It is also home to the highest mountain in Spain, the dormant Teide volcano. There are numerous walking trails and a cable car to the top of the volcano. Really impressive!

If you like sea sports, the Bay of Pozo Izquierdo is the best beach in Gran Canaria for windsurfing. If yours is snorkeling or diving, you will be delighted to see groupers, barracudas, turtles, rays,
tropical fish and the occasional shark. Needless to say, the deep sea fishing and sailing are also fantastic!

If you are going to spend a week in Gran Canaria, try “ClubHotel Riu Vistamar”. While your pool area
it can get busy, the hotel is very well maintained, and the food you get there, ok, heavenly! You get pancakes, cereal, toast and even champagne for breakfast! On certain days, you’ll even get smoked salmon. Frankly, I don’t mind having it every day! Remember to attend dinner at 6:30pm to also enjoy the nightly entertainment.

The Canary Islands have a population of 1.84 million inhabitants, the majority of whom are Roman Catholic. The weather is generally warm and sunny throughout the year. If you hate winter, this is the best place to be a lazy beach bum and have nice and friendly people around you!
