What are Corning UniCam connectors?
Corning Cable Systems’ UniCam connectors provide an easy field termination solution for fiber optic contractors and network administrators. These connectors have a pre-polished piece of fiber inside the connector body, which is completely protected from environmental factors. They do not require polishing, epoxy or polishing films. On average, experienced installers can complete a connector in less than 2 minutes.
All industry standard fiber optic connectors are available as UniCam. This includes ST, LC, SC, MTP, MTRJ and more, both singlemode and multimode. They all comply with ANSI/TIA/EIA 568B.
Unicam multimode connectors have a ceramic ferrule and maintain a good record for low insertion loss: 0.1dB typical and 0.5dB maximum. Installation of an LC, SC, or ST connector can be done in approximately 45 seconds with the UniCam Pretium Tool Kit.
What are Corning UniCam Fiber Toolkits?
Corning Cable Systems Tool Kits provide a collection of essential tools needed for all tasks associated with the installation, maintenance, and termination of Unicam connectors. The tools used in the kits are assembled and stored in compact cases that carry like a briefcase.
The cases are lined with a foam padded material that keeps tools safe, tidy and in good working order. Most kits are supplied in ballistic nylon packages.
The main offering in installation kits is the UniCam Pretium Tool Kit (TKT-UNICAM-PFC). This is a carefully designed tool kit that provides very consistent precision in the installation process. This kit includes a lightweight, portable installation tool with an immediate feedback signal to provide unequivocal confirmation of successful completion.
The kit’s high-precision cutter has an integrated fiber waste container and a double-clamp precision field fiber holder with a diamond blade for superior cutting. It can be used with UniCam LC, SC, ST multimode or singlemode connectors (Standard and Pretium-Performance) and is required to achieve Pretium performance specifications for UniCam Pretium-Performance singlemode connectors.
The Standard UniCam Installation Tool Kit (TKT-UNICAM) is a basic installation tool kit used to terminate all UniCam styles (SC, LC and ST connectors). UniCam Pretium-Performance multimode connectors (SC, LC and ST) can achieve Pretium-Performance with the use of this kit.
A handy carry bag is provided with all the components needed to terminate UniCam connectors. The TKT-UNICAM can also be upgraded with a Continuity Test Set (TEST-UNICAM-CTS) that provides a visual feedback function when connectors are terminated. The installer can see if a red glow on the back of the connector dims or disappears, indicating that the field fiber was properly inserted into the connector. This is very helpful in training new installers and reducing scrap rates.
For fast termination of flat cables, the UniCam MTP Connector Installation Tool Kit (TKT-UNICAM-MTP) is a single ferrule design that terminates 12 fibers at a time in one connector. The kit contains a high performance tape cutter for superior cutting performance. The TKT-UNICAM-MTP also includes a thermal tape coating stripper, tape insertion tool, crimping tool, and cleaning and fiber preparation materials.
