How to Promote Your Salon and Spa on YouTube

YouTube is a great way to promote your salon and spa. They say a picture is worth a thousand words? Well, a video is worth a million.

So let’s jump right into setting up your YouTube account and creating your first video.

To set up your YouTube account, go to the YouTube website and provide your email address and password. YouTube will send you a confirmation email that you’ll need to respond to.

Now that you have a YouTube account, let’s make our first video.

Take about 10 photos of your Salon or Spa. Take a photo of your sign outside, clients receiving services, special equipment, your staff, and the like.

Now, on a Windows PC, enter the free Windows Movie Maker software installed on each PC. Create a new project called “My First Salon and Spa Video for YouTube.” Import those photos from your camera. Windows Movie Maker can import them directly from your camera without going to your hard drive first. Now drag each of those images after importing them to the timeline at the bottom of the screen.

Now you can easily add a title page and a closing page. Make sure you have website links and contact information on both. You can also create transitions as the video plays each image. But be sure to stick to one type of transition. It is very distracting in a video if you use different transitions on each photo in your video.

There are also options to add music there, but you don’t want to. YouTube will recognize that you have used copyrighted audio content and will ban your new video. And you don’t want to get off to a bad start with YouTube, because they’re owned by Google.

Now you are almost done. The size of the video will be 320 x 240. Now at the top, click Publish Movie. This will create a WMV file or Windows Media file.

Now go back to your YouTube account and select My Videos in the top right corner, then Video Upload. Now select the WMV file you just created. It will start charging. Do not interrupt this screen.

While uploading (the larger the file, the longer), make sure to add:

  • The title of your video (including your website name at the end)
  • The description of your video (also includes the name of your website at the beginning)
  • Your labels (include your salon and spa name, your city, your name, your website)
  • Your category (choose people and blogs)

That’s all about it. In our next article, we’ll show you how to add that YouTube video directly to your website.

In the meantime, you can copy the YouTube link for that video (it will appear in the browser line) and email that link, tweet it, and post it to your Facebook page. Be sure to check out our related articles on marketing your salon and spa on Facebook and Twitter.

Now roll up your sleeves and post your first video today!
