Having a bad hair day? Or is it cold and you want to keep your head warm and look fashionable at the same time? Why don’t you try a turban? You might be struck by this idea thinking that turbans only look good on men, but that’s not true!

The turban originated in South Asia and while identifiable with Sikh men, women have also wrapped their hair in a turban for generations. Many Sikh women wear turbans due to their religious beliefs. Over the last 100 years, Indian fashion designers have been tasked with creating exciting and innovative interpretations of this ancient accessory, making them ever more glamorous and attractive.

The turban became a fashion statement in the West in the 17th century. From this century to the present day, the item has evolved into a significantly bold and compelling fashion accessory. During the 19th century, the turban was not as common, but designer Paul Poiret, whose style was heavily influenced by the East, brought it back to prominence in the 20th century. Poiret’s designs along with his turbans became high society fashion when they were adopted by film stars like Gloria Swanson and socialites like Peggy Guggenheim.

In the 1930s, actress Greta Garbo looked magnificent in a turban; The photograph of her has now become an icon representing her exquisite taste in fashion. She was famous in Hollywood and around the world, so the turban became associated with the traveling woman.
