Indian medical colleges

The medical profession is the most coveted and respected in the world. We all admire doctors and adore them with God. This sacred profession grants the power to heal and gives new life to others. It is the greatest power that any profession bestows on its followers. In our country, the percentage of doctors with respect to the total population is insignificant. The continuous canvas attached to this profession has kept hordes of aspirants away. The selection process in Indian Medical Colleges is a difficult task. Despite these factors, we need to motivate the younger generation to join the profession and also increase the number of places in good medical colleges in India.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, is the best medical college in the country. It is the dream university of any aspiring doctor and the alma mater of the most successful doctors. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru conceived this college and soon after, the independence of labor started to erect it. Take an All-India Common Entrance Test for Admission. AIIMS is known for its world-class teaching and research (42 disciplines), clinical programs, and patient care. At the undergraduate level it offers courses in medicine, nursing and related areas (MBBS, B.Sc. in human biology, B.Sc. in nursing, audiometry, ophthalmology, techniques, radiography). The postgraduate course is offered in all medical study specialties (MD, MS, MDS, DM, M.Ch and M.Sc.).

The Christian Medical College (CMC) in Vellore is affiliated with the TN Dr. MGR Medical University. It was founded in 1900. The university conducts an entrance test followed by an admission interview. For the undergraduate level, it awards MBBS, Nursing (B.Sc.), Physical Therapy (BPT), Occupational Therapy (BOT), and Medical Laboratory Technology (B.Sc.). It also offers fellowships in HIV Medicine and Secondary Hospital Medicine.

The Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) is a prestigious institute, established in May 1948 in Pune. It was created by merging the Army Medical Training Center, the Army School of Hygiene, the Central Laboratory of Military Pathology, the School of Blood Transfusion, and the Army School of Radiology. On the first Sunday of May there is an entrance test to the UG course in MBBS and B. Sc Nursing. Qualified applicants are called for an interview, but final selection is based on a medical aptitude test. PG courses include MD, MS, M. Ch., and PhD. AFMC is affiliated with the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences and is recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI).

The Jawaharlal Institute for Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) is the renowned Ecole de Medicine de Pondicherry, which was established by the French government in 1823 in Pondicherry. In 1964, the Indian government took over. A common entrance test is taken for admission. Undergraduate courses are MBBS, B Sc. (medical laboratory technology), and BMRSc. Postgraduate courses include MD, MS, Diploma and M.Sc. in Medical Biochemistry; and Ph.D. JIPMER also offers exclusive super-specialty courses: M.Ch in Cardiothoracic Surgery and M.Ch in Urology.

Lady Hardinge Medical College for Women, Delhi, was established in 1914. It is affiliated with the University of Delhi and recognized by MCI. The various courses are: MBBS at UG level, MD and MS at PG level and Diploma.

Kasturba Gandhi Medical College, Chennai, is located in Manipal, Karnataka and is affiliated with Manipal University. It was inaugurated in 1953 and is the first private medical college in India. It is a highly sought after medical college in India.

Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, was established in 1959 and follows the rules and regulations of the University of Delhi for examinations and selection. It offers undergraduate courses in MBBS and BDS. And at PG level it offers courses of MD, MS, PG Diploma in Geriatric Medicine and in Maternal and Child Health, and PG Scholarship in HIV/AIDS Medicine, Associate Scholarship in Industrial Health. The institute also offers postdoctoral options. and DM, M.Ch. It also has an HIV scholarship program.

Grant Medical College in Mumbai is a state governed university affiliated with Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik, founded in 1845. Admission is based on merit and there is also seat reservation. The institute has 200 seats for MBBS at the UG level. MD and MS are offered in all major branches at the PG level and have 130 positions. Super specialty courses are also available: DM and M. Ch, in all major branches, and DMLT for technician training. There is also a short-term observation ship: a six-week training in diagnosis and management of tropical diseases.

The St. John’s National Academy of Health Sciences was established in 1963 by the Indian Conference of Catholic Bishops. Take your own entrance test. The institute is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore. It offers MBBS and B.Sc at the undergraduate level; MD, MS and M.Sc at postgraduate level; post graduation diploma; Super specialty racing; and DNB (Diplomat of the National Board) courses.

Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, popularly known as BMC, is run by the Karnataka government and was established in 1955. It is an autonomous institute under the Bangalore Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. The Bachelor’s degree in MBBS is offered to those who qualify on the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (for state students) or AIPMT (national level students). Paramedical courses are also offered at the UG level. Postgraduate degrees in MD, MS, super specialty courses (M.Ch, diploma, postdoctoral fellowship) are offered.

The entrance exam to pass through the good medical colleges in India is not an easy nut to crack. And the competition thereafter is also fierce. Being a doctor is by no means child’s play. But those dedicated and enthusiastic enough to serve humanity toil and sweat. Even if they don’t succeed the first time, they continue their efforts to get into one of the best medical colleges in India, because being a doctor is not just a profession, but a passion to serve.
