New releases on Blockbuster

I enjoy renting my movies online, that’s why I put together this list of new releases on blockbuster. If you’re already a member, this should serve as a helpful guide to the latest movies available. And if you’re still stuck in the old days of renting movies from a physical store, hopefully it will see the light of day and join us in the modern age.

a nightmare on elm street (2010) – The legendary slasher franchise gets a reboot thanks to the guys at Platinum Dunes. As the teenagers of the town of Springwood begin to die one by one, they discover a disturbing secret that dates back to their childhood. Meanwhile, the disfigured Freddy Krueger (Jackie Earle Haley) stalks them in their dreams with lethal intent.

the karate kid (2010) – This remake of the ’80s classic stars Jaden Smith (son of Will and Jada) as a 12-year-old boy who moves with his mother from Detroit to Beijing, China. Small and totally out of place, he soon becomes the target of bullies. But all that changes when he meets the maintenance man, Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), and starts learning kung fu.

Splice (2010) – A pair of scientists (Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley) mix human DNA with that of other animals, soon bringing a new life form into the world. Going by the name Dren (“nerd” backwards), the curious new species grows at a rapid rate and soon begins to show an unhealthy interest in human sexuality. Chaos and death ensue.

30 days of night: dark days (2010) – A sequel to the 2007 horror film 30 days of night, this direct-to-DVD movie is also adapted from the Steve Niles comic book series. One year after the brutal vampire attack in Barrow, Alaska, a widowed survivor named Stella (now played by Mia Kirshner) joins a group of hunters to exact revenge on the bloodsucking demons responsible.

The Human Centipede (First Sequence) (2010) – A mad German doctor (Dieter Laser) has an obsession with uniting creatures and making them share a single digestive system. After kidnapping two American girls and a Japanese tourist, he goes to work on his latest experiment. The three unlucky victims are connected mouth to anus in an unspeakable mockery of a centipede. As the doctor tries to get them to perform tricks, the desperate trio must try to escape. Very disturbing, although much of the more graphic content occurs off-camera.

Kell’s Secret (2009) – An animated story set in the 9th century, the film would receive a 2010 Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature. As Viking raiders threaten the land, a young Irishman (voiced by Evan McGuire) must help a master artist complete an elaborate book. But to do so, he will have to face his own fears, not to mention an evil serpent god. Fortunately, he gets help from a pale fairy spirit named Aisling (Christen Mooney). Drawing heavily on Celtic mythology, it has been called “one of the best hand-drawn independent animated films of all time”.

Frozen (2010) – While trying to ski some more before a blizzard hits, three friends (Emma Bell, Kevin Zegers and Shawn Ashmore) end up stranded on a ski lift. Faced with the prospect of being trapped there for the weekend, the trio must devise an escape plan. Meanwhile, some wolves below are hungry. During screenings of this horror movie, it was reported that some members of the audience passed out due to the unrelenting tension.
