Sidekick Phones – How to Restore Your Contacts

Following the recent server crash in Danger, technicians from Microsoft and T-Mobile have been working to try to recover personal data that was lost. One million users of the Sidekick, a phone that is popular with many American celebrities including Paris Hilton, were told that all their personal data had been lost as a result of a server failure.

Microsoft uses a “cloud computing” service to store large amounts of personal data files on a remote community server rather than on users’ physical device.

At the time it was thought that all data was permanently lost, but now Microsoft has recovered much of the personal contacts and thus owners can access them again.

The method to restore Sidekick contacts is described below:

Before you begin, you must have an active Sidekick data plan. For users who have changed their data plan, they will be prompted to switch back to their Sidekick data plan to access their list of missing contacts.

How to export your contacts.

  1. Go online to My T-Mobile and sign in.
  2. The next step is to select “Restore your contacts” (Recover and restore your Sidekick contacts).
  3. When the Contacts Recovery page opens, click the green button titled “Download Contacts”
  4. Now you will see the “Download Box” popup.
  5. When the download is complete, “save” the user’s contacts file to your desktop. and close the box.
  6. Your contact address book is now recovered and you are ready to import it back to your Sidekick device.

Importing contacts to a Sidekick.

  1. Upon returning to the T-Mobile recovery page, you will need to click the green button titled “Restore Contacts”
  2. Your address book screen will now be visibly open.
  3. Select the “Browse” button and navigate to the contacts file you previously downloaded to your desktop.
  4. When the file has been attached, select “Import” at the bottom of the address book page.
  5. You will start to see your contacts gradually populating the page. This is a good sign as it means your contacts should now be back on your Sidekick.

That’s all there is for now. All that’s left to do is check your Sidekick and you’ll be ready to get back in touch with your friends and family again.
