One of the main reasons people work hard every day is to achieve financial freedom. But achieving financial freedom requires not just working hard, but working smart through financial education. That is why we are reviewing this text this week entitled “The capsules of the new millionaires”, with the subtitle “How to work step by step your way towards financial freedom”. You can also read my “Path to Success” column on Monday to reinforce your knowledge on this.

This text is written by Ayo Arowolo, a Reuters award winner, who has been involved in financial education for more than 20 years as a financial and investigative journalist. Arowolo has worked for major Nigerian newspapers, including Concord Group, The Guardian, The News, and This Day, all in Nigeria.

He is the founding managing editor / CEO of Financial Standard and founding CEO of The Investment Club Network (TICN). Arowolo is now the editor / CEO of Moneywise, a personal finance newspaper. He speaks to audiences across the country, focusing on how people can take charge of their personal financial affairs.

In this text, Arowolo shares with you the secrets of creating wealth and sustenance. According to him, the financial journey that catapults you from poverty to riches requires some conscious effort. Arowolo educates that this journey begins with realizing that God wants you to live the life of abundance and aligning your thinking with this reality.

To correctly convey his message through the creation of concrete analytical background to achieve conviction, Arowolo recounts how his finances plummeted many years ago as a result of blind investment. He says the escape route came for him when he started applying the wealth-building tips that his financial mentor had shared with him.

He adds that his financial mentor also recommended different motivational and financial books and cassettes, and before long, his financial situation began to improve. This practical journey to financial freedom experience is what Arowolo shares with you in this text.

Regarding segmentation, this text contains 22 millionaire tips, technically baptized as “Millionaire Capsules”. Capsule one is labeled “Set Clear, Specific Money Goals.” Through his financial mentor as a spokesperson, Arowolo emphasizes that it is only when you set clear and specific goals that you can transform your imagination into reality. Through his conversation with this financial mentor, Arowolo states that wealth is not measured in monetary terms, but in how much your passive income stream can cover your expenses.

Capsule two is based on the need to dream of the existence of your naira. According to Arowolo here, you must be a millionaire on the inside to become a millionaire on the outside. Through his financial mentor, he clarifies that you can command all imaginative material possessions to come into existence only if you have a strong desire. Arowolo claims that to make his dream come true, he must make it a dominant passion.

In capsules three through five, the concepts of your mind are the most important asset; Unleashing your imagination and sticking with a business coach are X-rays. Through his interaction with the financial mentor, Arowolo emphasizes that with your mind intact, healthy and constantly developing, you have everything you need to make money.

Capsule Six is titled “We Are All Stewards of God’s Money.” Using the financial mentor as a spokesperson, Arowolo says that no matter how rich you are, you are only a steward of God’s money and wealth, and if you are not kind to money, God will make it go away.

Capsules seven through nine are based on the concepts of being bold to take small steps; Strive to bring your talent to areas of wealth and your problem is driven by purpose. Here, this author argues that many people are waiting for the moment when they will have all the money in the world before starting their own business. Arowolo cautions that while money is good, you shouldn’t let it be the main factor when choosing a career.

Capsule ten is about sharpening your financial intelligence. Here, through the financial mentor, Arowolo emphasizes the need for you to avoid impulsive or bad spending and invest in business areas in which you have experience.

In Capsules 11 through 17, Arowolo directs his intellectual pursuit light to concepts such as business with an understanding of wealth generation; preach the message, a biblical allusion; success and failure are predictable; learn to control your expenses; know the state of your financial health; avoiding depending on a single source of income and getting your spouse involved in your money.

Capsule 18 is based on the theme of purpose and layout that go together. Here it is stated that God has an assignment for every human being and may not find it until he is able to locate that assignment and commit to accomplishing it.

In Capsules 19 to 22, Arowolo analytically radiographs the concepts of knowing the state of your health; possibility of starting over; Separate yourself for advancement and prepare your personal financial statements.

Regarding the mode of presentation, this text is a prototype of artistic and intellectual distinction. The title is suggestive, figurative and creative. It is also pictorial in the sense that the image of Capsules is conjured, thus aiding memory. The design of the outer front cover embroidered with the image of capsules and tablets is also used to achieve a visual reinforcement of the readers’ understanding of the concepts symbolized by the capsules. The use of capsule symbolism also underscores the fact that the ideas discussed are easily applicable just as capsules dissolve easily in water.

In addition, the language of the text is simple. This is to be expected, given Arowolo’s professional track record as a journalist. In short, as my editor-in-chief / CEO, he always preached (and still preaches) the gospel of simplicity of language in the Financial Standard, an article I put down as editor-in-chief. Arowolo also uses biblical allusions, backstories, and dialogue to build concrete conviction and give credibility to his message. Another artistic success of this text lies in the combination of narrative techniques. Arowolo combines Autobiographical narrative techniques and Ojo de Dios, thus assuming the role of omniscient narrator. Include a summary at the end of each capsule to ensure easy understanding through recap.

However, a section of the outside back cover needs to be rewritten for clarity. The section is, “There are principles behind the accumulation of wealth. It implies …” If the pronoun “It” refers to “accumulation of wealth” (via the grammar rule of proximity), rather than “principles” , then, we need to put “wealth accumulation” in parentheses after “he” like this: “she (wealth accumulation) implies ….” referential relations) with the plural noun “Principles”.

Generally, this text is a masterpiece. If you are determined to legitimately transform your financial situation from the podium of despicable financial depression to the rostrum of enviable financial uplift in the remainder of 2010, this text is highly recommended for you. It is an irresistible treasure trove of financial knowledge.
