The Color Uploaded Dictionary of Turkish Slang — Frikik (Free Kick)

Our Off-Color Dictionary started when our Turkish nephew, Yanki, suggested (in 1996) that we prepare a page with the most heard usage words of the Turkish language. If we omit them, he warned, our coverage of ‘Practical Turkish’ would be incomplete. How could Turkish language students get by, he insisted, without a basic understanding of profanity and everyday Turkish slang?

And so he convinced us that you can never have a complete idea of a language unless you’re familiar with its bawdy jargon. (This is especially true in a language like Turkish, in which off-color words can blend into ‘polite’ everyday speech, without flinching. The word boktan first comes to mind, for example.)

And here’s one of our favorite raunchy Turkish colloquialisms…

  • geek (free kick) — When, for example, a woman gets out of a car in her skirt and accidentally (?) spreads her legs to expose her underwear, the man watching the event is said to have received a ‘freak’. The term originates from the football term, Free Kick, and is equally applicable if the man catches a glimpse of an exposed breast when a woman accidentally (?) leans too far in front of him.

    Like a sapling of geekthere’s also:

  • geek yatmak — [for a man] wait in a convenient place to get a geek; bed. lie down for a free kick

    Y

  • geek vermek — [for a woman] to grant a geekby the way;

    bed. take a free kick
