The difference between oil-based and water-based athletic field paint

There was a time when oil-based field paint was your only option, but now there’s your other option: a water-based field paint. Water-based paints, also called acrylic paints, are becoming quite popular. However, each of these paints has its advantages and disadvantages. The purpose of this article is to discuss the difference between these two paints so that you can make an informed decision.

The main difference is that water-based paints dry quite quickly and can be thinned with water if necessary. On the other hand, oil paints take a bit longer to dry and obviously cannot be thinned with water because they are oil based.

Water based paints are also much easier to clean compared to oil based ones. To clean oils, you need a special mineral liquid to clean the surface. This is not the case with alternative water-based paint for athletic fields.

Experts believe that water-soluble paints are a better choice for the environment. They are usually made from natural ingredients such as pigment, lime putty, water, chalk, and glue. This gives them a matte finish and they are also known to be long lasting. However, they are not recommended for high traffic areas like parking lots. However, they can be used as paint for athletic fields.

Oil-based paints are usually made from oils; the oil used is usually vegetable or animal oil, white spirit as a solvent, pigments, drying agents and resins. The advantage of these paints is that they are durable and give a rich texture to the painting. This is ideal for parking lots and high traffic locations.

Many believe that the ingredients in oil paints can be toxic and highly flammable and are better used for exterior surfaces than interior surfaces. If you use it indoors, it’s important to make sure the room is well ventilated.

These are basically the main differences between these two sports field paints. When choosing an athletic field paint, be sure to choose a supplier that uses superior commercial grade products.
