The importance of mirrors

Mirrors are essential to every home. They help us in our daily mundane lives, although we rarely really appreciate their usefulness. From the moment we get up at night until we get ready to sleep, we almost always look for a mirror to look at ourselves. Mirrors reflect how we see ourselves, how our clothes fit, and how things fit us. People always love to know how things look and with them. It gives us the opportunity to appreciate and be grateful. There is something to be said for how, after a day of straining our eyes, looking at everything else in the world, we know that we can always look at ourselves with the help of a hand mirror. Wherever you go, mirrors are almost always present. There are clear mirrors that perfectly reflect the image of the thing or person in front of them, and there are also tinted mirrors that serve as a stylish decoration or as a barrier for a bit of privacy. Mirrors are part of our daily lives without our conscious recognition.

During the early times, mirrors were only owned by royalty and wealthy people of high ranks. It was believed that they are the only ones worthy of appreciating themselves and looking at themselves in their reflections in the mirror. The mirror symbolizes self-esteem, or blandly called vanity. Mirrors could reflect back to us how we see ourselves and how we present ourselves. It shows us how we behave and, perhaps, how people see us. That is why people of great beauty almost always have a great influence, either for good or for bad. Aesthetics is important to human beings. In a world where beauty is vital and where all beautiful things are desired, mirrors have gained their central place. Image has become everything today. Thus, people who care about what others think of them will always have a mirror handy, just to make sure they do look presentable enough to the public’s tastes. This is pretty obvious, especially with girls these days. In the bathrooms of almost every girl, there would definitely be cabinets with bathroom mirrors, sinks and mirrors present. The emphasis on good looks and dazzling image in today’s society could be reflected in the importance mirrors have in our mundane human lives. Even on the streets, we see its importance. Shops are mostly made of mirrors these days. With their transparent glass walls, they can show off the products they sell, attracting and persuading customers through visuals. The use of glass walls is a strategic use of man’s desire that the mirror reflect exactly what he wants. With glass walls, buyers feel like the walls reflect what their possessions should be. Suffice it to say that mirrors have power.

Contemporary society is now fully seduced by these mirrors that surround us. Now, the reflection is more important than the real thing. It’s time to think if that’s a good thing or not.
