The very basic checklist for a motorcycle trip

Are you a fan of mid-speed pulse-pounding machines? Then there could be few adventures as rewarding and exciting as a motorcycle ride down a beaten track that is known to delight!

However, you need to make sure you get it right the first time.

Let’s go over a checklist you need to keep in mind before heading out on that long-awaited road trip with your friends.

One drawback that you probably have to put up with is that a motorcycle will hardly offer you the same storage capacity as a car. A conventional bike would allow you to carry a nice backpack over your shoulders and a pannier for extra storage.

Now you are sure to find some chic options for saddlebags. A hard saddlebag is sure to look smooth and stylish as it shimmers in the sun. But suede is just as charming and impressive.

Another very common type of storage accessory for your bike are tank bags. Tank bags may not be as common as saddlebags, but they sit directly on top of fuel tanks.

A tank bag may even have a glass window that displays maps.

If it’s weather protection that limits you, harder bags are the right choice. But these need more time for installation.

If you need even more storage space, you may want to consider opting for rear bags.

Now we can run the inspection checklist. The T-CLOCS method is a great way to inspect your bike just before you get ready for your ride.

• T: Shoot. Tires must be properly inflated. If you carry a blood pressure monitor with you, it should serve its purpose. If you think a tire may need replacing while on the road, why not do it!

• C is for controls. Are all your clutch, brakes and cables working fine?

• The supports for lights. Make sure your high and low beams, turn indicators, and taillight are in excellent condition.

• O is for oils and fluids. You need to check everything, starting with the engine oil, coolant, and brake fluid.

• C: Chassis. Frame, chain and fasteners must be intact and in excellent working order.

• S: Supports. Side brackets and center bracket must not be cracked or bent. The kickstand springs should be in excellent condition so that they keep the assembly off the pavement when you put the bike in motion.

A full face helmet will surely offer better protection. This is not only due to accidents but also due to elements of nature. Refuel frequently to ensure you reach your destination with ease.
