The world of tractor parts

The introduction of the farm tractor revolutionized the way farming was done. With the replacement of human effort and animal inputs, production increased exponentially, with more being done in less time. The first machines that could be considered “tractors” were massive steam-powered machines developed in the 1870s. These machines had enormous power going for them, however, versatility was definitely not an advantage.

The invention of the internal combustion engine gave a boost to the production of agricultural tractors. Companies such as International Harvester, Case, Rumley and Hart-Parr adopted their steam tractors to use smaller internal combustion (IC) engines, however steel tracks were still used for the wheels. The diesel engine was later developed by the German engineer Rudolph Diesel, from the Dresden University of Technology in Germany. This made it possible to build a better tractor with the most reliable and least troublesome diesel engine.

Popular tractors today include Agco, Allis Chalmers, Case-IH, David Brown, Deutz, Fiat, Ford, New Holland, Massey Ferguson, McCormick, and the Gleaner and New Idea combines.

Maintenance parts for all these tractors are provided by the respective companies. Dealers for all of these tractors are located in North America and most of the world.

However, the least expensive methods of maintaining parts are from replacement manufacturers (aftermarket supplies) and good used or rebuilt parts from salvaged yards. Popular aftermarket vendors are:
