Virendar Sehwag to Miss T20 World Cup 2010

Virendar Sehwag, India’s opening batsman, suffered a shoulder injury and will miss the T20 World Cup 2010. He was advised to rest for 4 weeks which means he has almost no chance to play in the T20 World Cup 2010 which will kick off on April 30 in the Caribbean, with India having their first match on May 1.

Virendar Sehwag, a starter for both the Indian team and the Delhi DareDevils in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has been replaced by Murali Vijay in the Indian team, who otherwise plays for the Chennai Superkings in the IPL. Vijay will take on the role of starter, although it is still unclear whether Gautam Gambhir will open with him or someone else. Gambhir’s opening with him can be a good combo, considering the kind of aggression and form Murali Vijay has shown in IPL 2010. On the other hand, Gambhir could be pushed down the order to bring more stability to the middle order.

Sehwag also suffered a similar injury prior to the 2009 T20 World Cup, missing that tournament as well. The Indian team was eliminated in the second round, in which they did not win a single game, however, it can be attributed to the fact that Sehwag was not the only one injured at the time and many other key players were unable to participate.

With Sehwag’s type of explosive batting packs, you can put pressure on the bowling side and change the game in even the toughest spots. He will definitely be missed in the Indian team, and we expect Murali Vijay to try and perform, if not more than at least equal to the level that Sehwag has set for the starting job.
