Wildebeest Migration Circuit: Why the Serengeti is Popular

The Serengeti National Park is the most famous park in Tanzania. Serengeti is a Maasai word that means “endless plains”. The park, of about 15,000 square kilometers, was preserved to preserve the route of the spectacular wildebeest migratory circuit. Tourists from all corners of the world visit the park to witness the spectacle of the annual wildebeest migration.

This migration involves more than 1.5 million wild animals and observing them is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. This migration movement includes a large herd of wildebeest, zebra, antelope, and gazelle. Wildebeest migrate to this park every year in search of green pastures and quality water. Countless thunderous hooves of wildebeest produce huge clouds of dust in the sky. You are sure to see big cats hunting for food on the plains up close. These cats include the lion, leopard, cheetah, and hyena.

Camping in the Serengeti is the best and most economical way to prepare for the greatest spectacle of wildlife migration in East Africa. You can choose to stay in the Serengeti or the Masai Mara in Kenya. It will also be a great experience, especially for those visitors who enjoy camping and outdoor activities. Spending your vacation on the Serengeti plains, with the thunder of the hooves in the background and away from home, will be the greatest reward of your life. Aside from these shows, your only other companion right now will be the birds, insects, roaring lions, and animal sounds that you might not recognize as a first-time visitor. You will actually watch the movies on TV.

Due to the large number of people visiting the Serengeti Park, several shelters and camps have been established in various locations to cater for accommodation during the wildebeest migration period. There are also mobile camps available in the park. These mobile camps move to different locations within the park depending on the migration of wildlife across the Serengeti plains. Most camping trips are accompanied by a cook and an experienced tour guide.

There is also a beautiful lodge located near Lake Ndutu on the southeast side of Serengeti Park. The lodge is built with local materials facing the lake. This is a great place to watch the migration, especially during the calving season. The lodge is surrounded by different species of trees that attract many birds. Trees provide shade for wildlife, especially on hot days.

Another camp is located on the western side of the Serengeti, near the Ngurumeti River. The lush forest along the river line is home to the rare black and white colobus monkey found nowhere else in the park. This remote side of the park is characterized by hills, rivers and floodplains that is an ideal home for a variety of wild animals.

In the southeast of the Serengeti Park, there is a beautiful lodge built on a hill. This hostel is the only tourist development on this side of the park. From this hostel, you can clearly see the great migration. You can drive through the park or see wildlife in a hot air balloon.

A safari to the Serengeti National Park will include a tour of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The Ngorongoro Crater, which resulted from a caldera, is considered the eighth natural wonder of the world. The crater has a variety of vegetation and lakes that attract many species of wildlife. The Masai community that has lived peacefully with wild animals for years are the only people allowed to graze.
