Besting: better nesting is a new trend among baby boomers

6 people every minute turn 60 in America, our aging population will change the housing market in many dynamic ways.

Out of the hundreds of Boomers I’ve talked to, none of them dream of a simpler home in retirement. They have plans, big plans for their future.

The American Dream was once simply a chance to own ‘A Home’. Today’s consumers expect more, having a single simple home is not enough. Dreams of home ownership today live on higher aspirations that include multiple homes, luxurious amenities, and fabulous locations. A dream home means much more than a haven.

The best thing is the search.

The children are out of the house, and now they are “empty nests”. This term has become synonymous with our culture for freedom and a graduation to the next stage of life: the golden years. We are told to hope to become an empty nest, the end of the nurturing years and the beginning of?

We introduce the term ‘outperforming’ or ‘better nesting’ and it’s what’s next for 78.2 million Baby Boomers. Overcoming is the stage between becoming an empty nest and retiring full time. The best are boomers looking for a better lifestyle. Overcoming occurs when a Boomer chooses to live in a dream home, or a dream lifestyle that he has denied himself, or has not had the means to obtain before. Better Nest is the culmination of years of pent-up demand and an attempt to express individuality and identity when buying a home or lifestyle.

If 78.2 million Americans suddenly adopt downsizing, there will be hundreds of thousands of obsolete homes.
