north park shopping center

Northpark Mall is one of the oldest upscale malls in Oklahoma City. With a tradition of more than 30 years, Northpark Mall has exclusive shops and boutiques. There are over 40 specialty shops and unique restaurants catering for all kinds of people. The wide variety of stores makes this mall on North May Avenue, despite its age, quite a popular and relevant destination in Oklahoma City.

Northpark Mall in OKC is largely the brainchild of now-deceased local builder and businessman Thomas S. Morris. The plaza was built in the early 1970s on land north of Hefner Avenue that Morris purchased in the 1950s. Morris saw potential to be tapped as Oklahoma City stretched further north. He started housing projects before proceeding to build commercial complexes. Morris Enterprises now owns and manages this mall.

Opened in 1973 with a grocery store and a four-screen movie theater, Northpark Mall has grown by leaps and bounds to become the upscale 250,000-square-foot mall it is now. The late 1970s and 1980s witnessed tremendous growth followed by a slump in the 1990s with occupancy dropping to around 50%. The situation was dire enough that certain parts of the plaza were walled off to overcome the feeling of emptiness. However, the conversion of the four-screen theater to a seven-dollar theater and the addition of strategic stores like Shoe Gallery and Shogun Steak House of Japan brought the good old days back to Northpark Mall.

Today, Northpark Mall in OKC maintains its reputation for providing a great shopping experience for customers young and old, with stores offering the highest quality merchandise. Guests of OKC’s finest hotels who expect the best of everything will be thoroughly satisfied with the Northpark Mall experience.
