The process of getting the baby into a sleep routine

It can be difficult for newborns or babies of a few months to get into a healthy sleep cycle. Your sleep is often disturbing, full of restlessness and discontinuities. But, parents can help their child sleep better by getting the baby into a bedtime routine.

This sleep schedule will generally establish a sleep time for the baby and a few other things that will ensure that the baby gets a full night’s sleep.

Differentiate between times of a day
The first thing to do when getting your baby into a bedtime routine is to make sure your child knows when it’s day and when it’s night. This, when stored in the baby’s subconscious, will greatly help him to sleep better.

You can introduce this difference by keeping the room bright and a little noisy during the day and changing it to quiet and dark when night prevails. In this way, the baby would know when to sleep and when to wake up.

Although infants and newborns have multiple sleep sessions per day, this technique would ensure continuous long sleep through the night.

Set specific times
If you want the baby to have a sleep routine, you need to create the routine first. At first, watch the child and see how she behaves and reacts, and what time she asks to sleep.

Once you have done this, set times for your baby to sleep. Set a time for all sleep sessions and then be consistent with them. Once you set the time, start acting on it. Make sure you follow that time every day.

comfort your child
Another thing that is required when getting the baby into a bedtime routine is to comfort him before and a few minutes after he falls asleep. This can be done by singing a soft poem, humming, or singing. Another option is to snuggle up with them or touch their backs and send them to sleep.

This is important for the child to feel safe. Once the child feels that she is safe, she will not resist any command and will inevitably fall asleep. Also, comforting the baby after sleeping ensures that he does not wake up early, upset or confused.
never rush
One crucial factor is that whenever you are trying to put your baby to sleep, never rush. Allow them to take their time and fall asleep comfortably. Another practice of not rushing that parents should have is routine.

Inevitably, the baby would need some time to settle into the sleep routine; parents should not try to rush the process. Take it easy; her son will gradually understand that he is being put on a schedule.

Be patient and you will surely get the desired results. However, if you rush it, you could end up messing up your baby’s sleeping habits even more to the point where it can’t be fixed.
